Best Trends in Beauty

We like to keep our readers in the know when it comes to the latest beauty trends.  We've compiled a list of the top 10 trends in the beauty industry that you will definitely want to know about.

Beauty trends come and go but we've identified 10 big winners from 2018 that are sure to stick around for a while.  These are the beauty trends that are taking over beauty stores, makeup departments, your local drug stores and in your best friend's beauty bag.

Check out our list of must try trends...

1. Beauty Diversity

For many years the beauty industry has gotten a lot of heat and criticism for its lack of diversity when it comes to including shades of makeup that work for all skin colors.  For too long companies seemed to only make products that worked on light skin tones.  Now companies are finally taking the hint and getting on board with creating foundations, lip colors, eye shadows and blushes that work for darker skin tones as well.

It's about time!

Some brands that are getting right are:
L’Oreal and Lancôme.  Lancôme has Black Panther star Lupita Nyong'o as the face of their new line of products. Iman Cosmetics founded by super model Iman has a great line of darker shades of makeup to choose from. Estée Lauder owns MAC and Bobbi Brown which are makeup lines that offer a variety of foundation shades and are very popular among a diversity of people. Marc Jacobs Beauty is another winner in the diversity department.

Fenty Beauty founded by pop start Rihanna has made a huge impact on the beauty industry recently with her introduction of metallic highlighters in gold shades that are really flattering on darker skin tones.  Pat McGrath, one of the fashion industries leading makeup artists has launched her own beauty line which has gained instant all star status for the quality and range of her products.

The diversity trend in beauty is here to stay, and it's beautifully expansive in it's rainbow of colors and product varieties.

2. Color of the Year: Ultra Violet

The color purple is back in a big way.  Pantone has named Ultra Violet color of the year for 2018.
Shades of ultra violet have been popping up all over the place from eyeshadow palettes, lipstick colors, nail polish colors, fashion and accessories and hair colors.

Look for great purple eye-shadow palettes, lip color, nail colors and even mascara.  Here are a few of our favorite picks:

3. Clean Beauty

Products and brands that advertise as "clean" are a good place to look if you want to start ridding your beauty bag of nasty chemicals which a lot of makeup and skin care products have.  This trend is growing and big named companies are working on adjusting their formula's to meet this new beauty standard of providing quality, non-toxic products.

No no ingredients include: parabens, silicone and sulphates - look for products that exclude these ingredients.  Sephora has a great search function on their website which allows you to x out these ingredients when searching for beauty products.

Some of the clean beauty brands we love are:

- TATA Harper
- Youth to the People
- Farmacy
- Origins
- Caudalie
- Tatcha
- Josie Maran

- Ilia Beauty
- Juice Beauty

4. Highlighters For Skin

This trend has been around for a while and appears to still be going strong.  That glowy, highlighted look is still really popular and appears to have real staying power for a while yet.  So get your glow on and pick up some of our favorite highlighter options for face and body.

Our favorite highlighters to try are:

- High Beam by Benefit

- Argan Illuminator by Josie Maran

- Watt's Up by Benefit

- RMS Living Luminizer

- Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick Highlighter Mini

- Yves Saint Laurant  TOUCHE ECLAT Radiance Perfecting Pen

5. Lip Gloss

You though lip gloss was just  for high schoolers?  Well, think again.  Lip gloss is back again and the best part is that it's really flattering on everyone.

It's time to shine again with some of these fantastic lip glosses:

FENTY BEAUTY BY RIHANNA
Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer
$18 at Sephora

PAT MCGRATH LABS
LUST: Lip Gloss
$28 at Sephora

BUXOM
Full-On Plumping Lip Cream Gloss

ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS

6. Metallic Makeup

Metallic makeup really grew on the trend list in 2017.  This trend continues to light up faces everywhere with a variety of gold, silver, copper and rose toned shades of sparkle.

Sparkly eyeshadow palletes are the quickest way to freshen up your look and stand out as a girl who's on top of what's trendy.  We recommend pairing toned down foundation, natural looking skin, heavy brows with a light colored lip gloss with a sparkly eye-shadow of choice.

7. Natural Looking Skin

These days overly covered skin with loads of foundation is out, and more natural looking, bare skin is in.  Skip the heavy foundation and opt for a lightweight tinted moisturizer or BB cream with just a hint of concealer for problem areas.

Don't be afraid to show off freckles or your skin's natural beauty when applying your base. BB creams and tinted moisturizers really are your best bet, and add a pretty highlighter on top to give you that dewy look.  Skip the powder finishes and definitely avoid going over board with blushes and contour applications.  The trend in beauty is to let your natural beauty shine through.

8. J-Beauty

Compared to the overly made up doll like trend that is popular with Korean cosmetic companies, Japanese brands are more focused on clean beauty, flushed cheeks, shimmery highlighters and a greater focus on skin care.

Japanese skin care brands have been around a long time and are still at the top of the best skin care lists. Brands like Shisiedo, SK-II, and Tatcha have consistanly created quality products that have been best sellers for years.

While western brands tend to focus on correcting skincare damage from the enviroment, sun exposure and age, Japanese beauty care is more about prevention and has a hollistic approach to skin care. It's a similar philosophy to their approach to healthcare.  Japanese brands get high marks for how advanced their science and technology is around SPF products, creams and foundations compared to their western brand counterparts.  Japanese beauty brands often are the first to make formula breakthroughs in their ingredients and products. One of Shisiedo's products Essential Energy Day Cream SPF20 is a great example of a premium sun care moisturizer with advanced technology.

The Japanese approach to makeup and skincare is making big waves in the beauty industry in a really good way.  Look for more Japanese brands like DHS, Shisiedo and Tatcha to appear in your favorite beauty stores - and sell out fast!

9. Bullet Lipstick

Say goodbye to the days of liquid and matte lipstick.  These days women are leaning back to the traditional bullet lipstick which is easy to apply, versatile and won't leave your lips feeling dry.

It seemed like the matte lipstick, and long wearing liquids were really big the last couple of years, but since people were not loving all the side effects that come along with long wear lip colors and ultra drying matte options, we are back to the good old days of a perfectly balanced lipstick.

10. Multi-Purpose Beauty Oils

We all love the face oils like....  but now why only get that extra moisturized feeling only on your face when you can oil your whole body, and your hair too!  These all in one oil products are selling like hotcakes, and they are amazing products to add to your beauty bag.
